I’ve been a fan of Joe Biden’s for years. I’ve always thought he would make a great President; he’s brilliant, he’s down to earth and quite frankly I think the man has a wicked sense of humor. Of course I think that Mr. Obama is the leader we need, but Mr. Biden rounds out the team of leadership perfectly!
Is there anyone in Washington who doesn’t like Joe Biden? I don’t think so. Although he is a 6 term Senator- he has never had that “inside the beltway” mentality to me. He says things that make the Washington elite faint and run for cover. Obama’s message is change. Obama wants to shake up Washington.
The McBush camp wants to paint Mr. Biden as the consummate insider and hardly a change agent and is antithetical to Obama’s signature message of change. But Biden- who commutes home to Wilmington DE rather than spending his evenings in the homes of the Georgetown elite- has really never been part of the DC establishment. He speaks his mind often -too often for his own good- but he is his own person and he is the perfect running mate for Senator Obama.
Do Senators Obama and Biden agree on everything? No- but Senator Obama has been clear from the outset that he wanted to govern in the style of Lincoln’s “Team of Rivals” rather than surrounding himself with yes men and women.
Obama and Biden both have humble roots. Both are the quintessential products of the American Dream that, over the past few years, has become increasingly out of reach for more and more Americans. Obama has been painted as an elitist and exotic (code for “not white”) by the McBushes although his background completely belies that. Mr. Biden’s roots and personal story are compelling and undeniable.
Mr. Biden’s personal history is one of triumph over adversity and tragedy and like Obama he was young when he began his life in public service.
The McBush camp has looked so lame today trying to put a negative spin on the Biden choice. Sure they put out an ad that has Biden hitting Obama during the primary. Gee imagine a primary candidate attacking an opponent! McCain (I’ll cease with my McBush reference) better watch his own back. Should he choose Mitt Romney as his running mate- there are literally hours of video of Mitt Romney ripping McCain a new — you know what.
Of course the McCain camp might be rethinking the Romney idea if for no other reason than the “out of touch” with the common man factor might come home to roost. Between the McCains and the Romneys they have more than a dozen houses. That won’t play well in this economy unless they try and sell it as “cheaper by the dozen”.
Mr. Biden hit Mr. McCain hard. We don’t need a warrior, we need a leader; the seven kitchen tables; and outing McCain for his sleazy “swiftboating” tactics- these are just a sample of things to come.
Mr. McCain aka McBush has been lulled into a sense of security and smugness over the past couple of weeks while the Obama campaign began mapping out its strategy for the lead up to the convention and the general election.
Mr. McCain – our time has come and you aren’t part of it. Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden are the perfect choice for the nation and for the world at this critical time in history.
I am sure I will have much more to say as we move forward. But for the time being all I will say is “YES they CAN!”
